724.

todolonial office letter No. 53567/37 dated 20th April, 1937, regarding the training of members of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, I am commanded by the Army Council to state for the information of Mr. Secretary Ormsby Gore that the only suitable course for Captain T. Aduis-Martin is No. 2 Q.F. Course, Serial No. 323, which is to be held at the Coast Artillery School, Shoeburyness, during the period 10th to 30th October, 1937.

2.

I am, however, to say that this course lasts 20 days and not 14 as requested in Colonial Office letter under reply, but that the Council strongly recommend that Captain Addis-Martin should complete the whole course as he would obtain little value if he attended 14 days only.

3.

I am to add that if Mr. Ormsby Gore agrees to this proposal then in accordance with War Office letter No. 091/2966 (F.2.) dated 2nd April, 1931, a tuition fee of £4 (four pounds) per week will be payable for attendance at the course, and it would be apreciated if arrangements could be made for the sum of £12 (twelve pounds) due in this respect to be paid before the commencement of the course to the Under Secretary of State, War Of ice. Any extra expense caused by the student's attendance, i.e. for issues made (such as fuel, rations, etc.) and accomodation or servant, if provided, will be payable in addition, and will be recovered locally by the authorities at the establishment concerned.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street,

London, S.W.1.
